Overview

In the light of the Midterm Review (MTR) mission, from January 14th to 25th, aiming at regular monitoring of the JCAR project and the research project Safe Coasts activities, a field visit was conducted to El Nakheel Beach in Alexandria. The plan of the JCAR team includes a study of the area to address the problem of rip currents and their effects, including drowning incidents among beachgoers. The project will also create a physical model of the study area to test the best proposed solutions for dealing with rip currents.

The committee was accompanied by members representing the Egyptian and Dutch sides of the project. They also held a discussion with the representative of the Governorate responsible for managing the resorts to understand the problem, its implications for the local residents, and its economic and social impacts.
