Overview
As a part of the ongoing activities of the research project (Performance Enhancement of Pump Stations for Irrigation and Drainage (PEPSI)), one of JCAR projects, a workshop entitled “Predictive maintenance and condition monitoring of pump station units” has been held under the sponsorship of Dr. Hany Sweilem, Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, and in the presence of Dr. Rasha Al-Khouli, President of the National Water Research Center (NWRC), Dr. Sami Abdel-Fattah Saad, Director of the Hydraulics Research Institute (HRI), Dr. Mustafa Abou Zeid, Head of the Mechanical and Electrical Research Institute (MERI), and Mr. William Olimans, JCAR team leader, at the Regional Training Center in the Hydraulics Research Institute at the National Water Research Center. The event was attended by 27 engineers from the Mechanics and Electricity Department (MED) and those working at various stations and administrations, and certificates were distributed to the trainees.
This training workshop aimed to introduce the importance of applying predictive maintenance for pumping stations and vibration analysis in pump systems to improve the performance and efficiency of pump units and increase their operational lifespan. The participants were trained during the field visit to one of the stations on how to identify the correct measurement locations on the station's pump units, select suitable sensors, identify and address faults, and understand the standard measures for their dynamic vibration using the latest special devices and collecting and analyzing vibrations using specialized software in this field.
On the sidelines of the training, Mr. William Oleimanz met with Dr. Rasha Al-Khouli to discuss the recent progress and current status of the JCAR project activities where the achievements of the previous period were reviewed and the work plan for the next stage was discussed.
