Overview
In light of the activities of the JCAR project and the activities of the research project (Performance Enhancement of Pump Stations for Irrigation and Drainage (PEPSI)), a Basic training course was conducted on pumps and their specifications in the National Water Research Center (NWRC) for 28 engineers from the MED during the period from 12 to 16 March 2023.
The aim of the training course is to provide an introductory and comprehensive understanding of the fundamentals of pumps and their performance by covering various topics to equip the participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively operate, maintain, and troubleshoot pump systems.
Participants provided excellent feedback, and praised the highly engaging, interactive, and productive sessions, with knowledgeable and supportive instructors. Additionally, they reported that they learned a lot and found the course to be a valuable experience overall including comfortable accommodations, and excellent facilities.
The training course was supervised by Dr. Rash Al-Kholy, the president of the NWRC, Dr. Ayman El-Sayed, Head of the Mechanics and Electricity Department (MED), Dr. Sami Saad, Director of the Hydraulics Research Institute and the supervisor of the Mechanical and Electrical Research Institute (MERI).
As part of the PEPSI research activities, a Basic Training Course on pumps and their specifications were conducted with the aim of providing participants with a comprehensive understanding of the fundamentals of pumps and their performance. The Deltares team followed up on various sessions of the training course and engaged with the participants, and emphasized the importance of understanding the subject matter.
During the training, Mr. William Olimans, the JCAR Project Team Leader, and Ms. Sonja Pans, the Deputy Team Leader, had a meeting with Dr. Samy Saad, the Director of the Hydraulics Research Institute and the supervisor of the Mechanical and Electrical Research Institute (MERI), to discuss recent progress in the training course and the coming training activities. Additionally, they discussed the current status of the PEPSI project activities and the work plan for the next stage.
The training Course proved to be a tremendous success, where the collaborative effort between JCAR partners not only underscored the importance of fundamental knowledge but also demonstrated the power of collaboration in achieving research goals.
