Overview

In light of the JCAR program  (joint cooperation between Egypt and the Netherlands for applied research) and the activities of the research project ( Assessing the Impacts of Irrigation Improvements and Innovations (A4I)), a workshop entitled "Socio-Economic Assessment Initiation" was implemented at Soil, Water & Environment Research Institute (SWERI) under the supervision of Dr. Mohamed Elsayed, A4I/SWERI lead, with the presence of Dr. Sonjia Pens, the JCAR deputy Team leader.

The aim of the workshop was to meet the survey takers who will be working with the A4I living lab team in order to carry out the surveys in the pilot areas (Kafr El Sheikh and Qalubeyya). The workshop also introduced them to the survey and its expected outcomes.

During to the workshop, a focus group discussion on gender dynamics in-field interviews was conducted. The session involved participants engaging in dialogue pertaining to the diverse roles and challenges encountered by female farmers, as well as the rationale underpinning the inclusion of gender-related questions in the survey.

Furthermore, the participants deliberated on strategies to incorporate female farmers in the surveys, which primarily involves directing efforts toward Female-Headed Households and ensuring that surveys conducted by Male-Headed Households duly account for the contributions made by women.
