A4I Session at Cairo Water Week 2024 | Advancing Water Management in Egypt 

We had an impactful session at CWW titled "Supporting Policies for Modernization of Irrigation: stakeholder views, field measurement, and impact assessment through modeling" where over 120 participants joined a dynamic discussion on modernizing Egypt’s water and agricultural practices. Moderated by Mohamed Youssef, the session brought together esteemed experts including Meike Van Ginneken, Water Envoy for the Netherlands, Dr. Sherif Mohamady Elsayed, President of NWRC, and Eva Witteman, Deputy Ambassador of the Netherlands to Egypt.

Key topics covered:

- 49 years of Egypt-Netherlands collaboration through the JCAR project, addressing water scarcity and climate change.

- Irrigation innovations: Drip irrigation showed a 22-26% increase in water efficiency, with challenges like soil salinity still being tackled.

- The SWAP model and other evidence-based strategies to improve irrigation practices across Egypt.

The session wrapped up with strong recommendations for continued cross-sector collaboration, emphasizing the need for research, policy development, and stakeholder engagement to drive sustainable water management and agricultural productivity in Egypt.
