Second objective
Support the further development of the capacity in Egypt’s implementing and research agencies and the wider knowledge ecosystem, by fostering long term partnerships (> 10 years) between Egypt and Netherlands institutes to address urgent knowledge questions and enhance the knowledge-base.
PillarsJCAR is structured in two distinct but connected Pillars:
Pillar I : Preparing for Future Water Challenges focusses on policy support and promoting dialogue and joint understanding of urgent and emerging water management issues of national importance.
Pillar II : Knowledge Cooperation in applied research activities, addressing knowledge needs of MWRI implementing agencies and stakeholders and includes work packages for training and communication
Sustainable Development GoalsPolicy linkages of JCAR
JCAR contributes to policy objectives of the Government of Egypt and the Government of the Netherlands as laid down in the NWRP, the sustainable development goals [SDGs] progress reports, and the Netherlands Multi-annual Country Strategy 2019 – 2022 for Egypt. JCAR contributes to all four NWRP objectives as well as the water and climate-related SDGs.
Ending hunger, achieving food security and improved nutrition and promoting sustainable agriculture
By 2030, ensure sustainable food production systems and implement resilient agricultural practices that increase productivity and production, that help maintain ecosystems, that strengthen capacity for adaptation to climate change, extreme weather, drought, flooding and other disasters, and that progressively improve land and soil quality.
Ensure access to water and sanitation for all
By 2030, implement integrated water resources management at all levels, including through transboundary cooperation as appropriate.
Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts
Strengthen resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-related disasters, integrate climate change measures into policies and planning, and build knowledge and capacity to meet the challenge of climate change.
Revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development
Enhance international support for implementing effective and targeted capacity-building in developing countries to support national plans to implement all the sustainable development goals, including through North-South, South-South and triangular cooperation.
